Building a more supportive community for families in the Puget Sound area

August 5, 2020 In All Posts, Blog
We wanted to take a moment to introduce one of our fellow nonprofit partners. Primarily serving the Seattle metro, Amara works to ensure that every child in foster care has the love and support of a committed family – as quickly as possible and for as long as each child needs.
Today, there are over 4,500 kids in foster care across the Puget Sound region. Now more than ever, we need to come together to support kids and families.
Fostering Family is an Amara initiative to raise awareness of children in foster care, and inspire community-wide support for kids and families.
The truth is, foster care is hard on everyone involved. By reducing perceived stigma, we can make a tough situation a little bit easier for those going through it. We can all do something to support kids and the families who care for and love them.
How? Here are just a few ways you can start Fostering Family, today.
Learn more: Challenge what you think you know. A foster family is not so different from every other family. And a kid in foster care has needs like any other kid. Parents whose children are in foster care have struggles just like any other family. Start learning about their stories and experiences: fosteringfamilywa.org/stories.
Spread the word: You can use your voice to tell others about Fostering Family and how we can all support kids and families – in whatever way is best for them. When we take time to listen and understand, we create a more compassionate community and reduce stigma for kids and families.
Give your time: Put your support for kids in foster care into action. Do you know someone who is thinking about or currently fostering? Whether it is offering to deliver groceries, being a virtual buddy to a kiddos, or simply calling to check in with a family, you never know how much your help could mean. Not sure what to offer? Just ask. Or, check out ways to get involved with an organization near you: fosteringfamilywa.org/take-action.
Invest in kids and families: Our community’s children are our future! Give to an organization working to make sure every child is taken care of by providing items like clothing and toys or donating.
Join us and our growing network of people, communities, businesses, and organizations stepping up for families by visiting FosteringFamilyWA.org.
We’re proud to support our friends at Amara with Fostering Family. Please help spread the word!
