You may have heard by now that all Washington State employees and contracted providers are required to be fully vaccinated by October 18th. Office Moms & Dads is a contracted provider, and as such, we fall within the governor’s mandate. If you plan to continue volunteering with OMD in the state of Washington (and I hope you do!), you need to be fully vaccinated by October 18th.
Pfizer, Moderna, and the Johnson & Johnson vaccines all require a two-week period after the final shot, so you will need to have the final shot before October 4.
You will be required to show proof of vaccination upon arrival at the DCYF office.
I know there are a lot of big feelings around this topic. I ask that we hold space for each other in empathy. With a spirit of grace for our neighbors, and a determination to drive our mission forward, we will comply with this mandate.
If you have questions, I can assure you I don’t have the answers. Information is trickling out from the State at the pace of a slow drip.
If you take issue with this, I can assure you I will not engage in debate. The mission is too critical. Our kids need a steady hand now more than ever before. We are that steady hand, and we will do what it takes to get back to work.
If you live in Idaho, this does not apply to you. You are a part of this OMD family, and are privy to the conversation.
If you feel you must recuse yourself from further volunteering with OMD, I am sad to see you go. This whole thing makes me sad. But grief and loss is something we’ve grown accustomed to, isn’t it? Simply email us and ask to be taken off the list. A quick text to your Volunteer Coordinator would be helpful too.
Below is a video message from Ross Hunter, Secretary of DCYF. It doesn’t contain much more information than what I’ve said, but he’s a nice man, and worth listening to.
Thank you for reading all the way to the end of this letter. Thanks for your sacrifice in service to our kids. They are so, so worth it. We cannot do this work without you!
