Caring for Children Entering Foster Care

Office Moms & Dads is a grassroots volunteer based organization that has been a vital part of Washington Department of Social and Health Services since 2013. OMD is an on-call volunteering opportunity for qualified adults to care for, sit with, and entertain children who have recently been removed from their home.

The average child can wait in a child welfare office anywhere from three to five hours after being taken into protective custody, while social workers frantically search for a suitable foster home or relative to care for them. Qualified volunteers can provide childcare during this time of high anxiety. They help alleviate social workers, care for the immediate needs of the child, and serve the foster care community in a tangible way. The time commitment for volunteers is flexible, but the impact is monumental.
